Detroit
announces
first
eight
Certified
Tech
Hubs,
with
interactive
map to
help
residents

DETROIT
- The
City of
Detroit
has
announced
eight
Certified
Tech
Hubs,
which
are now
open to
residents.
The
announcement
was made
by
Deputy
Mayor
Todd
Bettison,
Digital
Equity &
Inclusion
Director
Christine
Burkette,
City
Council
Members
and
community
partners.
The
announcement
was held
at the
Dick &
Sandy
Bauch
Campus
of the
Boys &
Girls
Clubs of
Southeastern
Michigan
(BGCSM)
on
Tireman
Avenue,
which is
one of
the
first
locations
granted
this
certification.

of
Digital
Equity &
Inclusion
Director,
Christine
Burkette,

the need
to
certify
tech
hubs for
reliable
and safe
internet
access
and
skill
development.

The
Office
of
Digital
Equity &
Inclusion
launched
the City
of
Detroit
Certified
Tech Hub
initiative
to
provide
residents
with
equitable
access
to basic
digital
literacy
resources
and
tools.
The goal
of this
initiative
is to
offer
residents
a
central
location
to
search
and find
the
closest
Certified
Tech Hub
near
them and
learn
which
digital
equity
resources
each
tech hub
provides.

Indiana,
and
Kentucky,
assists
Detroit
resident

Jones in
accessing
the
programs
she
needs at
the
Certified
Tech
Hub.

To be
granted
a City
of
Detroit
Certified
Tech
Hub,
each
location
must
provide
free
Wi-Fi,
have
devices
available
for
residents’
use,
offer
basic
digital
literacy
training
software
and be
considered
a safe
environment.
Each
Tech Hub
is also
assessed
to
determine
whether
it
provides
additional
digital
equity
resources
and
tools,
such as
a Device
Loaner
Program,
IT
Workforce
Training,
Wheelchair
Accessibility,
Tech
Support,
and ESL
Resources.
Detroit
residents
can now
access
the
interactive
map on
the City
of
Detroit’s
Office
of
Digital
Equity
and
Inclusion
website
to
discover
the
locations
of these
eight
Certified
Tech
Hubs and
the
tools
and
resources
they
offer.
Community
organizations
can also
apply to
become
Certified
Tech
Hubs.
